    Mushroom Hunting and ID Course: Fun for Beginners!

    If you want a fun and engaging experience that is perfect for beginners, sign up today! On this guided hike through the forest with an expert mushroom ID guide, you will not only learn how to find and identify all sorts of fungi but also about cultivating them.

    The best way to learn mushroom identification is firsthand. Touch and smell are some of the best senses one can utilize for identifying mushrooms. If lack of experience or access to property is an issue, then connect with us for an opportunity to learn in the field with experienced foragers.

    In this class you will learn the basics of mushroom identification. You will also learn to identify edible mushrooms, toxic mushrooms, and their common look-a-likes. Furthermore, best practices for harvesting, transporting, and preserving mushrooms are covered. Finally, you will be given ample resources to continue your mushroom education independently.

    This excursion takes place in a beautiful natural setting where we can guarantee plenty of fresh air and new knowledge. The best part? All necessary tools are provided by us so anyone who signs up has nothing else they need to worry about except having some quality time outdoors surrounded by nature.

    Please wear appropriate hiking clothes and bring snacks, water, and bug spray if needed.

    You must register online before attending. Children 12 and under attend for free.

    Dadeville, AL | John B Scott Forever Wild Trail | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

    This foray will be led by Fungi Farm employee and experienced outdoorsman Eric Schoonover. Eric has multiple years of experience identifying mushrooms and backpacking in the wilderness. The group will meet in the parking lot.

    Mobile, AL | Medal of Honor Park | 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

    This foray will be led by Fungi Farm owner and author of the wild mushroom certification course, Allen Carroll and/or Certified Wild Mushroom ID expert and mushroom cultivator Tanner Hammond aka Mushroom Man Tan. An easy hike for all ages. This trail is stroller-friendly and pet-friendly. We will meet near the playground.

    Daphne, AL | Village Point Park Preserve | 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Her commitment to understanding and appreciating the intricate relationships between plants, fungi, and soil has made her a valuable asset to the scientific community and a source of inspiration for those interested in the wonders of the natural world and its healing properties

    LaGrange, GA | Pyne Road Park

    This foray is led by Michael Page. Page, a dedicated mushroom enthusiast, has been immersed in the world of fungi for over three years. In this time, he has earned a certification as a wild mushroom identification expert and is passionate about the multifaceted uses of mushrooms, from culinary delights to medicinal benefits. Hailing from Arkansas, Page was an avid outdoorsman from a young age, enjoying activities such as car racing and dirt biking. His love for nature eventually led him to discover a passion for mushroom foraging. Today, Page proudly owns and operates Page's Place Fresh Mushrooms in LaGrange, GA, where he shares his enthusiasm for fungi with the local community.

    This foray is led by James Hartshorn, James is an experienced forager with a passion for fungi. He is an Athens County local and an amazing human being. His main interests are natural identification and commanding the woods. With 5 years of experience in foraging and cultivation, James is a true man of the woods. 

    Rydal, GA | Pine Log Creek Trail | 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM EST

    This foray is led by Bridget Childers. with her extensive academic background and studies at the University of Georgia, self-taught knowledge, and practical experience, Bridget Childers is a dedicated and knowledgeable botanist, mycologist, herbalist & certified forager. Her commitment to understanding and appreciating the intricate relationships between plants, fungi, and soil has made her a valuable asset to the scientific community and a source of inspiration for those interested in the wonders of the natural world and its healing properties. This is a moderately difficult trail with slopes, rocks, and branches. Not recommended for strollers, wheelchairs, or other assistive devices.

    Roswell, GA | Leita Thompson Memorial Park | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM EST

The group will depart at 10:00 AM, and the event will last until approximately 12:00 PM. Please come early so you are not left behind. 

    Atlanta, GA | Daniel Johnson Nature Preserve | 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM EST

    This Foray is led by Allen Carroll. Allen is a professional mushroom educator, laboratory operator, and owner of Fungi Farm. He studied Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science at Auburn University and served as president of Alabama Mushroom Society. Allen is dedicated to mushroom research and works to provide high-quality products and services throughout the United States and internationally. He frequently leads educational seminars, workshops, classes, and forays. In addition to directing educational programs, he provides consulting for mushroom growers both large and small. He has published several articles on mushroom cultivation and also developed the first mushroom ID expert certification course in the state of Alabama.
